(AP) HAGERSTOWN, Md. - A former Army counterintelligence agent says he played a role in alerting military authorities about a soldier charged with leaking classified material to the WikiLeaks website.

Timothy Webster of Santa Barbara, Calif., says a friend, Adrian Lamo (LAH’-moh), called him in May seeking advice after Pfc. Bradley Manning told Lamo he had leaked classified information. Webster alerted authorities.

Lamo says he consulted with several people on the Manning case, but it was Webster who got the investigation rolling.

Manning is an Army intelligence analyst who is charged with leaking secret documents and video to WikiLeaks.

Manning also is suspected of giving WikiLeaks thousands of classified military intelligence reports from Afghanistan.
