Tracking the Career of Uma Thurman

Bookmark and Share

As Uma Thurman's latest movie, Motherhood, gets a very-limited theatrical release this weekend, we're left wondering how this once A-list star's career went in the tank well before she turned 40. Quentin Tarantino and Kill Bill: Vol. 3 (set for a 2014 release) might be her only hope. We're pulling for you, Uma!

Uma Thurman Chart

Dangerous Liaisons (1988) At just 18, memorable nude scene puts Uma on map. (Incidentally, this is her only appearance naked on screen. The beach, now that's a different story.)

Pulp Fiction (1994) As blow-snorting trophy wife Mia Wallace, she spawns popular '90s dancefloor moves, dark-nail-polish craze, and even manages to make bangs cool.

Batman & Robin (1997) It's not Uma's fault this Joel Schumacher-directed monstrosity nearly destroyed the franchise. However, Poison Ivy is a warning sign of things to come.

Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) / Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004) Vengeful Bride adds badass dimension to her stunning hotness. Uma reaches peak of sex-symbol status, single-handedly increases bright-yellow tracksuit sales 900%.

My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006) Kill Bill certainly qualifies her for superheroine role. But director Ivan Reitman makes a lousy movie AND turns the Clark Kent-esque frump dial a little too far, sending Uma's career into tailspin. The shark is jumped.

The Accidental Husband (2008) Movie fans spared when this grueling romantic comedy isn't released in theaters. Uma's career suffers dual damage of shelved movie and role as sensible, mature talk radio host.

Motherhood (2009) Only five years removed from the cover of every fashion magazine, Uma plays stay-at-home mother of two and is photographed for the poster sucking a pacifier. Says: "I think there is a very beautiful thing in making a movie about a mother." Hey, Uma, practice this kind of public service on your own time!
