5 EYEWITNESS NEWS and KSTC-TV are partnering with AAA, Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare, DQ, Brain Injury Association of Minnesota, Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota Department of Health to create a fun and exciting educational opportunity to reward children, ages 2-13, residing in Minnesota for wearing helmets during appropriate summer activities. The program utilizes law enforcement to "catch" young Minnesotans and reward them for practicing proper safety habits through helmet utilization. The program teaches using your mind to protect your body, and creating safer communities by preventing traumatic injuries.

How it Works: I Got Caught! is an innovative way to reinforce the message of helmet safety by incorporating law enforcement and educational personnel into the injury prevention campaign. Law enforcement will be instructed on injury prevention issues and will be on prevention patrol, targeting children who are properly wearing helmets while bicycling, skateboarding and rollerblading. Law enforcement will catch the child while performing this safe activity. The child will be rewarded with a mock citation and a coupon for a free child size ice cream cone at participating DQ locations.
